Camping and Cooking Fires

Fires are not allowed at anytime when the Bureau of Meteorology Fire Danger Rating is 'Very High' or when the State of Western Australia has declared a 'Total Fire Ban'. Fires are also not allowed within the Fitzgerald River National Park.

Open air Camping and Cooking fires are also not permitted in the Shire area during Shire gazetted 'Prohibited and Restricted Burning Times' unless you have a Fire Permit or the fire is compliant with Fire Control Policy No. 7 - Camping and Cooking Fires, penalties will apply for non-compliance. The Camping and Cooking Fire Policy allows for a person to have a camping and or cooking fire in the Shire area if;

• You're staying within the following designated areas,
    - Bremer Bay Caravan Park
    - Bremer Bay Beaches Resort & Tourist Park
    - Tozer’s Bush Camp
    - Jerramungup Caravan Park
    - Camp areas managed by the Shire’s Camp Host

Or if you have a;

 Shire registered fire pit at your place of residence (a building approved by the Shire).

• Obtained a fire permit,

• A sign bearing the Shire or State Government logo denoting that purpose.

Camping and cooking fires must be contained within a purpose built structure denoting that purpose i.e. barbeque, fire drum/pit, sand pit, etc. The fire can be no greater than 1m² in area with a flame height no greater than 1m. Fires should never be left unattended and be fully extinguished prior to departure.

Registering a Fire Pit

To register your backyard fire pit you will need to:

1. Complete the Fire Pit Registration Form

2. Attach a photo of the Fire Pit you are registering.

3. Sign the declaration stating that you understand and will comply with the Camping and Cooking Fire Policy. 

4. Submit the completed application form in person to the Shire office, via admin@jerramungup.wa.gov.au or posted to PO Box 92, Jerramungup WA 6337.

Registration of the Fire Pit remains valid while you are the owner or occupant of that property. If the property is sold or you move the new residents will have to re-register the fire pit and agree to comply with the Camping and Cooking Fire Policy.
