COVID-19  - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is the Shire still open for business?

Our Administration office is currently closed to the public until further notice.

To make payments, ask questions or have concerns addressed please email admin@jerramungup.wa.gov.au or phone 9835 1022 and we will respond as soon as possible.

All Department of Transport transactions should be completed online through the DOT website: https://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/licensing.asp

If we are unable to assist you over the phone or your Department of Licensing transaction cannot be completed online an appointment MUST be made to complete it at the Administration office by calling 9835 1022.

Can I go camping?

The WA Government’s strong advice to all Western Australian is to stay home unless it is for essential travel. Camping is not classified as essential travel therefore you must stay home.

Essential travel is classed as:

  • Travel to work
  • Shopping for necessities – ie: groceries, medicine
  • Attending medical appointments
  • Transport of freight
  • Attending school or an educational institution
  • Approved compassionate grounds

Can I go fishing?

The WA Government’s strong advice to all Western Australian is to stay home unless it is for essential travel. If fishing is your primary business or job then it is classified as essential and you are able to continue. If not you must stay home.

I have a holiday house in Bremer Bay, can I still go and stay there?

No we are asking everyone to do their part for the safety of our community and stay at their primary residential address (this is the address on your driver’s license).

As a regional community we have limited medical services and supplies which will not be able to sustain an influx of visitors to our area during this time.

My house in Bremer Bay requires repairs, can I go there to carry out this work? 

No, unless the repairs are urgent (ie: significant damage will occur to the property if not carried out immediately) this is not classed as being essential.

Can I exercise?

Yes however you need to exercise within your local neighbourhood and in compliance with public gathering requirements which state no more than 2 people unless it is with your own household and you must keep a distance of 1.5m away from others.

Are Council Meetings still proceeding?

Yes Council meetings will continue to be held however they will be held via teleconference.

Are Shire of Jerramungup facilities still open?

All public facilities (ie: public toilets, playgrounds, skate parks, swimming pool, fish cleaning stations etc.) are closed until further notice as part of a nationally consistent approach to close these facilities due to the current COVID-19 heath emergency.

The Paperbarks public toilet in Bremer Bay and the Lion’s Park public toilet in Jerramungup will remain open.

The Shire of Jerramungup regrets closing these facilities, however the health and safety of the community and our staff is our priority.

Is the Rubbish Tip still open?

Yes the Bremer Bay and Jerramungup rubbish tips are both still open however we are no longer accepting cash. You will be sent an invoice for your visit.

Will my bins still be collected?

Yes, Cleanaway are still currently operating as per usual.

Are upcoming events cancelled?

Yes for the safety of our community all events have been cancelled or postponed until further notice. This includes the Anzac Day dawn service which has been cancelled.

I am having difficulty paying my rates, can the Shire help?

Property owners having difficulty paying their rates are encouraged to contact the Shire on 9835 1022 or email rates@jerramungup.wa.gov.au to discuss options.
