We do recommend keeping up to date on the Coronavirus through the Australian Government's Department of Health, and the World Health Organisation ‘Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) advice for the public’.

Members of the public are also encouraged to go to the following online resources for up to date information:

IMPORTANT WAYS TO REDUCE YOUR RISK

You should continue to go about your usual day-to-day business without the need to stay home or limit your social activities.

Everyone must practice good hygiene to protect against infection and prevent the virus spreading.

The Department of Health provide information on protecting yourself and your family at their website.

There are also ways you can easily reduce your risk:

  • Wash hands often with soap and running water, for at least 20 seconds. Dry with paper towel or hand dryer.
  • Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow.
  • Isolate yourself at home if you feel sick. If you take medication ensure you have adequate supplies.
  • Phone your GP first if you need medical attention. They will tell you what to do.
  • Continue healthy habits: exercise, drink water, get plenty of sleep, and now is the time to quit smoking. Call the Quitline 137 848.
  • Don't wear a face mask if you are well.
  • Buy an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with over 60 per cent alcohol.
  • Get the flu shot (available April).
  • Shaking hands is optional!

SOCIAL DISTANCING

Coronavirus is most likely to spread from person to person, when we come into close contact with one another.

We can all help stop the spread by keeping our distance, including at parks, beaches and shops.

Get more information on social distancing from the Australian Department of Health.

Community members are reminded that no more than two people are to gather in public places unless from the same household.

People aged over 70 should stay at home to self-isolate and limit contact with others as much as possible. This also applies to people over 60 with chronic illness and Indigenous Australians over 50.
