Elections

Details regarding enrolment on the electoral roll, Councillor vacancies, opening date for nominations and date of election will be advertised in the Jerry Journal, Bremer Bulletin, Gairdner Gazette and The West Australian.
The minimum requirement to stand as a candidate for the office of Councillor is that the person nominating:

  • Must be an elector of the district at the close of enrolments;
  • At the time of nomination, must be 18 years of age and not a member of Parliament;
  • Is not insolvent or under Administration within the meaning of Corporations law;
  • Has not been convicted of a serious local government offence within the last five years;
  • Is not a member of another Council; and

It is important that landowners are aware that they are not automatically enrolled for every property they own; it depends where you are enrolled on the State Residents Roll. If the property you live at in the Shire of Jerramungup is not the property listed on the State Residents Roll, you need to enrol at the Shire to ensure you can cast a vote in an election.
